Hi, I’m Shuruq! I’m an avid reader of literature – especially Palestinian literature – and am particularly interested in books presenting alternative futures and endings (or, science-fiction). Living between Central France and Berlin, Germany, I have started building on my family’s legacy of land stewardship and begun to learn methods of soil restoration. Shuruq Josting (she/they) is a German-Palestinian student and researcher who has studied at Berlin’s Humboldt University and at the University of Ghent, Belgium. Throughout their studies, their focus has been to better visualize the connections between the Palestinian struggle and other movements for liberation and justice. Previously, Shuruq worked as a research intern with Visualizing Palestine, the Earth Law Center and the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network International. As an activist, Shuruq was organized with a variety of grassroots initiatives in and beyond Berlin. In 2020, they were one of the co-founders of the Zait wa Za3tar Festival, a festival celebrating Palestinian arts and culture. Shuruq also hosts a podcast called “Area D – Decolonizing with Palestine” and has published on themes such as environmental warfare and international arms trades.
